About

Earth Feed is a product of my experiences.  It’s a dash of international development, a pinch of environmental science and politics, and a whole lot of ramblings on the relationship between the two.  Particular emphasis is placed on environmental conflicts, the inter-related nature of life on earth and the broader impacts of the choices we make.

Humanity is a critical part of the earth’s systems.  By 2050 there will be 9 billion of us roaming around the blue rock – roughly equivalent to adding two more China’s.  Suffice to say, no other species on earth has had as great an impact, and no other species will suffer more from the consequences.  Earth Feed is about the relationship between people and our planet.  It’s a meditation on where we’ve come from, where we’re going and what we need to do to change it.

Who am I? >headshot2 300x209 About
What would a blog be without an existential crisis?  My name is Elaisha Stokes.  I’m an ecologist, explorer and story teller, working in the medium of documentary.  I work at the Royal Ontario Museum, where I produce their Natural History videos.  I spend my days poring over news reports and press releases on ecology, biodiversity and how we’re all going to hell in a hand basket.  Then I digest, repackage and share these thoughts with the rest of the world, in an attempt to have some tiny impact on the state of our earth.   Sometimes this makes me feel sad and helpless, but other times it leaves me with a feeling of hope.  I have traveled to over 30 countries and worked as a foreign correspondent in the Southern African region.  I hold a BSc in Global Resource Systems  (think environmental sciences meets international development) and a Masters in Media Production.    I love cheese.
