Here’s an odd little piece care of Reuters. Apparently the Kingdom of Jordan has elected to fight climate change by upgrading their weapon arsenal. By making their military equipment more efficient, Jordan hopes to meet it’s commitments under the UN climate negotiations held recently in Copenhagen. Surprisingly (?) they are the only developing nation electing to proceed against the climate fight in this capacity. Developed nations also engaging in such measures include the United States.

Military build ups under the guise of fighting climate change? Now that’s innovation!

The Pope goes green

In other news, Pope Benedict announced on Friday that we all ought to pitch in together and make serious changes to save the earth. According to his holiness, God has called upon us all to make a lifestyle change. Somewhat ironic, given it was only a year ago when he urged for another lifestyle change which he likened to saving the rainforest.

Is it just me, or is the Pope trying to capitalize on the current currency of the environmental movement to revamp his decidedly stale and unpalatable image? I’d cast stones, but he’s hardly the first. Green washing your public image and declaring yourself an “environmentalist” is certainly in vogue these days. Perhaps it’s time to make it official.

And so I give you the Green Sheen award, the first environmental award for those seeking maximum accolades for minimum change. Congratulations Pope, you’re our first winner. You’ll go down in history with the likes of Exxon Mobile and General Electric. Quite the accomplishment indeed.
