Last night I had the pleasure of attending the final recording of this year’s Massey Lectures, featuring the brilliant Wade Davis. I know not everyone loves Mr. Davis – his colourful depictions of a life spent amongst the world’s dying cultures has been described as overly romantic bragging.
I’m going to go ahead and just put it out there: In my eyes, Mr. Davis is a total babe. Adventurer, Academic, Advocate. A package deal.
The lecture focused on the important place of indigenous cultures in the global quilt, and discussed how our current international development paradigm is contributing to ethnocide. He also made strong links between climate change and the loss of culture, particularly for the Inuit of Nunavut.
The five-part lecture series will air on CBC radio’s Ideas next week. If you’ve got a spare moment, I highly recommend you check it out.
Also, if you’re reading this, it means I have successfully migrated this blog to it’s new domain – www.earthfeed.com – and you are still a RSS subscriber. Huzzah! If you’re not reading it, well, thems the breaks.

I am going to listen to this! I heard a clip on As It Happens the other day – it was great. Thanks for the reminder!
